Porsche 911 GTS provides extra power, one of five different ways

Whereas pre-facelifted versions of the auto came with naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six engine that produced 420 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque, Porsche ditched the whole engine entirely and replacing it with a smaller, albeit turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six that packs a total output of 450 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. That's a gain of 20 horsepower over the last GTS and 30 more than the last GTS. But it's the 911, which can make a case as the most famous and appreciated model in the entire industry today. The body shell has been untouched except the roll-hoop on the targa which is now painted black.

In total, five different 911 GTS models will be available: the coupe and cabriolet will come with a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive, in contrast to the Targa, which will come only with all-wheel drive. Additionally, the Targa 4 GTS features now features a black roof bar.

In our testing, a rear-drive 370-hp 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera with the manual transmission reached 60 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds and completed the quarter mile in 12.3 seconds at 114.7 miles per hour. In its most athletic specification - a C4 GTS with PDK - Porsche claims a 0-62mph time of 3.6 seconds. Aside from the upgraded turbocharger, the GTS also gets Porsche's Active Suspension Management system as standard, as well as a Sport Chrono pack, which uses dynamic engine mounts and a sports exhaust system. As well as taking top speed honours, the dual clutch PDK equipped version of the 911 Carrera GTS also boasts the lowest consumption and emissions of the new line-up, with a claimed 8.3L/100km on the European test cycle giving it a Carbon dioxide rating of 188g/km.

A new black trim strip between the tail lights identifies the rear-wheel-drive models. Also included as standard are 20-inch centre lock alloy wheels finished in silk-gloss black. The Sport Design front fascia features a more aerodynamic front bumper, revised air vents, a black spoiler lip, higher rear spoiler, tinted tail lights, rear lid grille strips in satin black and tailpipes in high-gloss black. Other interior trim includes black anodized brushed aluminum. The Porsche Track Precision app has been enhanced to coincide with the market launch of the GTS models and includes automatic recording, detailed display and analysis of driving data on a smartphone.
