Mnuchin, 54, is the latest member of Trump's Cabinet to edge through the confirmation process on a largely party-line vote.
Steven Mnuchin was confirmed as U.S. Treasury secretary, filling the role of chief spokesman for the dollar and steward for the Trump administration's economic priorities.
Also on Monday evening, the Senate confirmed Shulkin unanimously.
Hatch, a Utah Republican, has been among the loudest advocates for Trump's agenda.
Treasury and White House representatives did not respond to requests for comment late on Sunday on a Bloomberg report that Trump would soon nominate David Malpass, a former economist at failed Wall Street bank Bear Stearns, as Treasury undersecretary for global affairs. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., said, "I simply can not forgive somebody who took a look at that banking crisis and took a look at the pain that Wall Street had sent in a wave across all of America, and thought, 'Ah, there's a great new way to make money, foreclosing on people'".
"Mr. Mnuchin has made his career profiting from the misfortunes of working people", said Sen.
Hours before Mnuchin was scheduled to testify before the Senate Finance Committee and answer questions about his role in what has been described as a "foreclosure machine" during the financial crisis, he found himself dealing with the disclosure failures after an article appeared in the New York Times.
Mnuchin also came under fire from Democrats after he failed to disclose more than $100 million in assets and other financial interests ahead of his nomination hearing.
Shulkin, 57, a former Obama administration official, has been the VA's top health official since 2015.
Shortly after his confirmation, Mnuchin was sworn in the Oval Office where Trump hailed his track record and called him a "financial legend". He has ruled out privatizing the department or ordering mass staff replacements.
