Monopoly Thimble Token Gets the Boot

"The lucky Thimble has lost its "shine" with today's fans and will be retired from the game", the company said in a statement. That immortality has ended.

The voting results came about through a ruthless online competition that pitted the classic tokens against dozens of upstart newcomers, including a dinosaur, an emoji, a hashtag, a horse and a helicopter.

The thimble, introduced to Monopoly in 1935.

IT'S "sew" long to the thimble, as the iconic Monopoly piece has been AXED from the game. This isn't the first time that Hasbro has put the token decision to a vote either. In a similar campaign in 2013, fans of Monopoly voted to replace the iron with a cat.

Hasbro gave Monopoly fans across the globe a chance to vote on which eight pieces should make it to the new version of the game, called Token Madness. Nowadays, most people just toss out clothes rather than learn to sew and fix them. The token that will be replacing it is now unknown - the Vote Monopoly site, which hosted the event, says that winning tokens will be revealed on March 19, 2017, which has been dubbed Monopoly Day.

The classic Monopoly playing piece the thimble is being dropped in a new version of the board game.
