British vehicle maker Jaguar's first SUV, the F-Pace has been awarded as 2017 World vehicle of the Year at the New York International Auto Show on Wednesday.
"The F‐PACE was designed and engineered as a performance SUV with exceptional dynamics, everyday usability and bold design", said Dr Ralf Speth, CEO Jaguar Land Rover. This led to the manufacture of the most practical sports auto in the world and also Jaguar's fastest selling vehicle. 75 journalists from 23 countries drove the cars in Los Angeles previous year, thus shortlisting ten cars in the first round and then bringing the list down to three which was announced in Geneva last month.
In other news, the 2017 World Car of the Year awards saw the debut of a new category called World Urban Car of the Year.
The Mercedes E-Class took the 2017 World Luxury Car title while the BMW i3 (94Ah) was declared the inaugural victor of the World Urban Car award.
The decision on these awards is taken by 75 influential motoring journalists from across 24 countries.

Russell Anderson, managing director of Asia Pacific Importers, Jaguar Land Rover Singapore, at the launch of the Jaguar F-Pace in Singapore. Interestingly all three finalists for the world vehicle title were SUVs.
F-Pace, which is the first ever sport utility vehicle from Jaguar Land Rover made it way into the Nigerian market past year on the platform of the Tech+ conference and exhibition in Lagos.
Jaguar F-Pace is an amalgamation of style with sporty features. While accepting its awards, Jaguar announced the F-Pace is the fastest selling model the company ever produced.
The Green Car of the Year award was awarded to the plug-in version of the Toyota Prius which isn't available in Australia. Both of which took out their respective categories at the 2016 Drive Car of the Year Awards.
With models ranging from a 2.0-litre diesel capable of 59mpg to a 375bhp supercharged petrol capable of hitting 60mph in 5.1 seconds, the F-Pace has become the firm's fastest-selling model.
